Wheels are one of the most important parts of any freestyle scooter. They affect speed, stability, and how well the scooter performs tricks. Although they are made to withstand hard impacts and grinds, they are not indestructible. The right selection and care therefore determine their lifespan.
Wheels are primarily differentiated by diameter:
100 mm – lightweight and easy to handle, ideal for beginners.
110 mm – the most common variant, universal for park and street.
120–125 mm – faster, more stable, primarily suitable for skate parks. However, they require a compatible fork, brake, and deck.
The larger the wheel, the better it holds speed and overcomes bumps, but it is slightly heavier.
Hardness is denoted by numbers (e.g., 86A, 88A, 90A):
Softer (≈86A and lower) – better grip, more comfortable ride on the street.
Harder (≈88A and higher) – faster, suitable for skate parks, but less cushioning for bumps.
The standard hardness is around 88A. Most users do not concern themselves with the hardness of the rubber.
Plastic Core – a cheaper variant for beginners, lower lifespan, not suitable for hard impacts.
Aluminum Core – strong and durable, the most common choice among advanced riders.
Spoked – lightweight but less sturdy.
Hollow – lightweight, with the possibility of an attractive design.
Full core – the sturdiest, designed for demanding riding.
The most common width is 24 mm, but there are also wider variants 28–30 mm.
Standard narrow wheels 24 mm → lighter, faster response.
Wider wheels 28-30 mm (FAT) → greater grip, better speed maintenance. However, a compatible fork and deck are required.
Pointed – faster, suitable for technical tricks, but less grippy.
Rounded (flat) – more stable, better at maintaining grip and not slipping.
Wheels are fitted with bearings that ensure smooth movement. The significance of ABEC ratings should not be a concern, as a higher number is supposed to mean faster rotation. The standard axle diameter is 8 mm (8STD), less common are 12 mm (12STD). When replacing bearings, keep the original spacers – they maintain the correct position and operation of the bearings.

Do not unnecessarily throw or lend your scooter to aggressive riders.
