Kendama is a traditional Japanese toy that has spread around the world in recent years. People of all ages can play with kendama. A kendama consists of a body (ken) and a ball (tama) connected by a sturdy nylon string. The body is made up of three wooden cups (zara) mounted on a wooden spike (saki). During play you try to catch the ball in one of the cups, on the spike, or to land and balance the pieces together in various ways — there are over 30,000 possible tricks. Kendama is a highly entertaining toy that you can learn to play with very quickly and that strengthens motor skills, coordination, reflexes, balance and concentration.
