Kendama is a traditional Japanese toy that has spread to much of the world in recent years. People of all ages can play with a kendama. A kendama consists of a body (ken) and a ball (tama), connected by a sturdy nylon string. The body consists of three wooden cups (zara) positioned on a wooden spike (saki). During play you try to catch the ball in one of the cups, on the spike, or to balance them together in various ways — there are over 30,000 possible tricks. Kendama is a highly entertaining toy that you can learn to play very quickly and that strengthens motor skills, coordination, reflexes, balance, concentration, and more.
