Kendama is a traditional Japanese toy that has spread to much of the world in recent years. People of all ages can play with a Kendama. A Kendama consists of a body (ken) and a ball (tama), connected by a sturdy nylon string. The body is made up of three wooden cups (zara) mounted on a wooden spike (saki). During play you try to catch the ball in one of the cups, on the spike, or balance and stack the pieces in various ways — there are over 30,000 possible tricks. Kendama is a very fun toy that you can learn to play very quickly, and it strengthens motor skills, coordination, reflexes, balance, concentration and more; this toy stands out from many of today’s board and electronic games — Kendama doesn’t need batteries! Kendama has become a sport and competitive discipline not only in Japan but also in the Czech Republic.
